Monthly Meeting Agenda

August 28, 2023

• Welcome & Introductions (10min)

• Nominations for FOGS Board going out next week, nominees get invited to the September meeting

• Mr. Davis and Ms. Abangan - Yearbook Club Request (10min)

  • Request for Herff Jones representative to collaborate with yearbook team to give more creative control to students

  • $5139.20 request to purchase 220 yearbooks at $23.36 each

  • Money is hoped to be returned to FOGS via carnation funding + yearbook sales

    • Typically raise about $1200 during carnation drive

    • Yearbooks would sell at $23.36, normally sell about 250 (~$5800)

    • Expect to raise about 7K

    • YAY: 10; NAY: 0 --- Motion Passes

    • Offline action: Nominate a FOGS and Yearbook liaison

• Wellness/ PAC request for Coffee and Lunch for teachers October 27 (5min)

  • Other options are available, FOGS requests that other options are explored but bring this to the September meeting if no luck

• Next meeting is the board elections. Every board member has to be voted in for a one year term. Joanna will send out nomination forms

• Updates on summer initiatives

  • Service Day - Elizabeth (3 min)

    • Less than $500 spent

    • Well-attended and organized

    • Ms Karina is taking over the fence to plan and paint a mural

    • Hope to do this again in Spring (around Earth Day or MLK?), Elizabeth can run the committee. For next meeting, further define committee

  • Cafeteria - Joanna (5 min)

    • Almost done!

    • Some tiles have been gathered, more will be coming

    • FOGS paid for the tile

  • $100 Gift Cards given out to teachers

    • All were distributed except for 10 extras, Sara will keep these safe until we have new teachers

  • Ms. Vazquez received her math supplies

  • Ms. Krystal’s new rug is lost in transit. Replacement coming in 2-3 weeks

  • Ms. Mariscal received her new computers

  • Ms. Herrera asked for books for her new classroom, this was approved

  • Outdoor wall mounted message center delivered today working on plan to mount them

• Ongoing and Future initiatives

  • Budget Committee - Ashlee (3 min)

    • Problem: we receive a lot of requests but it's hard to organize them all and determine impact

    • Potential solution: budget committee, who works in hand with LSC, to determine what would be the biggest impact/ need at this time

    • Committee Goals: Genevra, Ashlee, Amanda Bull, someone from admin

  • Field problem solving committee Cassie & Ashlee (3min)

    • Discussions with Alderman, State Rep (Ms Toro), CPS ongoing

    • Help Needed: Looking for and applying for grants

    • We will likely need a separate capital campaign and maybe bank account for this funding

    • Quote from architect was 1.9M but insight is that this is likely underfunded

    • We do have a "final" drawing, pending community input

    • We need a committee -- call to the community to help

  • School signage design proposal - Amanda (3min)

    • Amanda gave an up date on design, pending Elmasri feedback

    • FOGS would be responsible for the majority, if not all, of the funding

  • Goethe Fest

    • Sara will head up with Amanda Eich for general ideas

  • Curtains for Ms. Amber - Joanna (2min)

    • Joanna is going to head this up and will do an online vote if over what she can approve on her own

  • Main entrance revamp - Kim (2min)

    • Kim is doing the design but unclear about whether there is a budget, what it is?

    • Kim and Elizabeth are going to connect offline to determine desk plan and bring some options

  • Dine and Donate - Caitlin (1min)

    • We received about $800 for the year

    • FOGS agrees that we do monthly again

    • Caitlin will take this on again

  • Snack attack- Amanda (1min)

    • Each grade takes one month and provides snacks for the staff. Amanda Eich is heading this up

  • Giving Tree - Tentative leader of Caitlyn, to be discussed in more detail at next meeting
