We are all volunteers working hard to fill the funding gaps for Goethe Elementary.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The short answer is, anybody! While the bulk of our volunteers are parents, we also have many teachers and community members participate. Board members are elected annually during the summer, but anyone can participate in our monthly meetings or volunteer.
"I had a great experience at Open House. Lively but orderly students moving from class to class, a clean and well-lit older building brimming with colorful student projects, lots of teachers/administrators interacting with kids in a very warm way – as if they clearly knew each other."
WHAT DOES FOGS DO?
Our focus changes from year to year, based on the needs of the school community. Over the years, FOGS has provided fundraising for classroom support, won major grants and state support for a playground and garden overhaul, for example.
IS FOGS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
Yes! Being a 501(c)3 means that all donations to FOGS are tax deductible for donors. EIN 26-3929495
RECENT FOGS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL:
Acquired a variety of flexible seating accommodations for classrooms to ease the transition back from remote learning while increasing engagement and encouraging outdoor lessons
Purchased iPads for our award winning library program
Worked with our music instructor to expand our program through the acquisition of new instruments as well as software and hardware for recording and sound editing
Provided funding for the after school Ballet Folkloriko instructor, so more students could participate, regardless of income, while we maintain the cultural heritage of our school
Funded and installed a new sound system for the auditorium
Provided a new keyless security system for the school
Participated in the ongoing campaign to secure CPS funding for the building of a new annex, which is currently under disrepair
Invested in sports jerseys for our various teams
Supplied new sports equipment such as basketballs, volleyballs and soccer nets to support Goethe’s PE programming
Supplied various types of equipment for active recess on Goethe’s playground such as sports balls, hoola-hoops, jump ropes, etc
"Goethe is a hidden gem in Logan Square. All of my children have graduated with high honors and been accepted to major Chicago high schools. Even back when I attended Goethe, we out-scored other schools in the area.
